One of the most worrisome bugs this year is PrintNightmare. This is becoming a real nightmare not only for Microsoft, but also for IT administrators. Although the Redmond tech giant keeps announcing new patches. And in each of them it states that all the security holes of PrintNightmare are now closed, then new cases appear. What’s worse is that these updates sometimes also alter printing within companies with certain settings. Now, with this latest patch, history repeats itself.
August patch KB5005033 recovers PrintNightmare issues
In a recent notice from Microsoft detected by WinFuture refers to the August monthly update, with the nomenclature KB5005033, where the problem originates. Systems with this update or a later installation may have problems with printing.
After installing KB5005033 or a later update, some printers in some environments that use Point and Print may receive a very clear message. “Do you trust this printer?” and that requires administrator credentials to install each time an application tries to print to a print server. Just like a print client connecting to a print server. This is due to a print driver on the print client and the print server using the same file name. But the server has a newer version of the file. When the print client connects to the print server, it finds a newer driver file. Asking you to update the drivers on the print client, but the package file offered for installation does not include the later file version.
Most versions of Windows 10 are affected by this problem and Microsoft is clear about it. The suggested solution is ensure that the latest drivers are installed and that this version is the same on both the client and server sides. With that said, the company has stated that if this solution still does not correct the problem, the company will need to contact the printer manufacturer.
