The fact that Valve made the definitive leap to consoles with a laptop was something shocking, but not unexpected, since there were many rumors that had been pointing to it for a long time. How to reserve Steam Deck
The first thing you should know is that Steam Deck will be available for pre-order starting today, August 16, at 7:00 p.m. CEST. For this you just have to go to the Steam Deck official website and log in with your account. When reservations open you can get one, although it is scheduled to launch in December 2021.
Another important point to know are the different editions of Steam Deck, finding the biggest difference in the type of storage and its size, being 64 GB and eMMC type in the first edition and 256 GB and 512 GB type NVMe SSD in the other two. The summary of the editions and their prices is as follows:
- 64GB Edition: EMMC type storage and carrying case. Price: € 419.
- 256GB Edition: NVMe SSD storage, carrying case and exclusive Steam Community profile bundle. Price: € 549.
- 512GB Edition: NVMe SSD storage, premium anti-reflective screen, exclusive carrying case, exclusive Steam Community profile bundle, and exclusive themed virtual keyboard. Price: € 679.
In everything else, specs are the same, where the AMD CPU with Zen 2 technology and an 8 CU GPU using AMD RDNA 2 technology, the same one that powers Xbox Series X | S and PS5. As for RAM, the Steam Deck uses 16 GB of type LPDDR5.
By last, the screen is LCD with a size of 7 inches and a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels with a refresh rate of 60Hz and a maximum brightness of 400 nits. As extra elements and connectivity, Steam Deck has Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz dual-band Wi-Fi, 2 x 2 MIMO, IEEE 802.11a / b / g / n / ac and 3.5 mm jack inputs for headphones as well as a USB-C port. The console’s battery lasts from 2 to 8 hours of gameplay.
Regarding compatibility, all your Steam games will be able to run on the Steam Deck. In addition, Valve has confirmed that Windows can be installed on the machine, allowing other game stores to run from emulators, such as Xbox Game Pass, EA Play or Ubisoft + among others.
