After celebrating the national holidays in Mexico it is time to return to daily activities. In some jobs a day off was offered as required by law and in others there were even two to join them with the weekend. That allowed us to rest during this difficult time. Although now the downside is that some of your patients could suffer from post-vacation syndrome, do you know what its symptoms are and how to identify it?
The painful return to everyday life
One of its simplest definitions is that it is a state that occurs in a person when the adaptation process between a vacation and leisure period with the return to active life fails. As a result there are discomforts that generate a lower performance than normally had and high fatigue.
Now, according to specialists from the laboratory of experts in macro and micronutrition Ysonut, this syndrome could also appear in the return to the so-called “new normal”, when resuming day-to-day activities, after the confinement to which we have been subjected in recent months.
According to a survey conducted by Adecco 37% of employees suffer from post-vacation syndrome when returning to work after the vacation period. In addition to this, in 2020 the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) determined that Mexico was the country with the highest increase in people’s anxiety caused by confinement, with 50% more than in 2019.
Returning to offices, school activities, etc., can cause psychological discomfort that, if we do not know how to manage it properly, could affect our professional and personal performance.
Regardless of whether there was a vacation between the lockdown or not. During the last months we have found ourselves in a period of confinement and stress, so the return to daily activities implies an abrupt change in our routine, which can generate stress and, consequently, a post-vacation syndrome.
Main symptoms
Stress or anxiety
Even those who do not usually suffer from these symptoms can suffer from stressful situations when returning to their daily tasks. That is why it is important to organize yourself well, prioritize the most important things and gradually return to your normal rhythm.
Fears
On the one hand, we find the health-related fear that many people continue to have, of getting sick if they are near other people in closed places, despite the fact that the measures against Covid-19 are improving step by step.
And on the other, the fear related to changing routines, leaving home at the right time, returning to work side by side with a direct colleague or boss with whom we cannot easily agree.
Tiredness
It is normal that the first days after the vacation period people feel tired or fatigued by returning to the routine. To combat this type of inconvenience, it is advisable to set new sleep schedules to rest the necessary hours.
Sleep
Surely, during the holidays your patients stayed up late or simply delayed their usual time to go to sleep. Therefore, little by little they must go back to their usual schedules or else they may develop sleep disorders.
