The new era of Formula E is a reality and this has been made clear with the shakedown of Porsche’s ‘Gen3’ on the Weissach test track. the german pilot Pascal Wehrlein has been in charge of completing these first kilometers on the track of the Stuttgart firm’s single-seater at the brand’s Research and Development Center. A small contact with the asphalt that will serve as a preview of an intense test program before the start of Formula E’s ‘Season Nine’. The future is present and it is already here.
Porsche’s ‘Gen3’ displays all the characteristics that define the new generation of electric single-seaters in Formula E. It is a more powerful, lighter, more compact and efficient single-seater than the current ‘Gen2‘. Constructed from carbon fiber recycled from current single-seaters, the ‘Gen3’ is the first single-seater with a front and rear drivetrain, offering up to 600 kW of power. Powertrain that extracts up to 40% of the total energy used from the regenerative braking system. Also, the new 600 kW ultra-fast charging technology allows its recharging times to be much shorter.
Florian Modlingerdirector of Porsche in Formula E, has pointed out: «We have taken the first step towards the ‘Gen3’ era with the launch of our car on our test track in Weissach. I want to thank the team for their great effort to make this possible. It has been a great technological and operational job to take our new single-seater to the track to cover its first kilometres. We are looking forward to the next few weeks to continue progressing with the car. We will work to see that everything works correctly and then look at the performance of the car.
Pascal Wehrleinofficial Porsche driver in Formula E, has been enthusiastic about debuting the brand’s ‘Gen3’ on the track: «Today has been a very interesting day, in every way. It has been an incredible experience driving our new ‘Gen3’ car for the first time. The sensations have been very good and I really want to be able to test the car at full power. My initial impressions today were also very good and I think they have made us all want more.
Porsche’s ‘Gen3’ test program will parallel the Stuttgart brand’s own racing effort this season. Campaign in which Porsche Motorsport had its moment of glory with a brilliant one-two finish at the Mexico City ePrix, but in which the results did not finish coming. In fact, both Pascal Wehrlein and André Lotterer have little chance of fighting for the titlesince they are more than 60 points behind leader Stoffel Vandoorne.
