The new playstation plus arrived today in the Asian region (except Japan), so in some countries you can already subscribe to the 3 available plans: Essentials, Extra and Premium. However, those who accumulated subscriptions discovered that they will have to pay a little more to upgrade their subscription to a better plan, which has upset many players.
The new PlayStation Plus was announced a couple of months ago and since then many PS4 and PS5 users have accumulated their subscriptions in order to get the new service at a reduced price, and many even got this subscription at a discount from the PlayStation Store itself. Thanks to this, an increase in sales of PS+ and PS Now subscriptions was seen.
However, users who accumulated subscriptions in Asia found that they have to pay a little more to upgrade to PS Plus Extra or PS Plus Premium, thus negating the discount they had previously obtained.
Many users accumulated subscriptions for many years, some even up to 2025 and beyond. The bad news is that those who did this will have to pay the price of the new subscription for all the remaining time, which will result in very high prices for some users who accumulated subscriptions from many years.
Many users expected that Sony would follow in the footsteps of Microsoft, because if you are subscribed to Xbox Live Gold (its cheapest plan) and you subscribe to a better one (Xbox Game Pass and XGP Ultimate), all your time is automatically converted to the best plan and you only have to pay for the extra time you buy.
Although the users who accumulate subscriptions are usually a minority compared to the rest of the subscribers, they are also usually the most dedicated and loyal to the service, so this decision by Sony has upset many users in Asia. Sony is expected to reverse this policy by the time the new PlayStation Plus arrives in other regions, but this would depend on public response.
The new PlayStation Plus arrives on June 2 in Japan, on June 13 in our continent and on June 22 in Europe, so it only remains to wait a few weeks to find out if this conversion policy will be maintained in all regions.
