It seems that the wave of purchases does not end here.
We could say that in recent times the video game industry has been hit by countless acquisitions that, in many cases, managed to make us fall off the chair due to their magnitude or importance. Frankly, the company with the most important companies (understand important as mammoth within the video game industry), such as Bethesda or Activision Blizzard (The latter is not confirmed by the relevant bodies, but according to the data we know, it is very likely to go ahead), but Sony has not been so far behind. This Japanese company may not have made acquisitions of this level, but in recent times it has bought large companies such as Bungie, Housemarqueor if we go back a little further, Insomniac Games.
It might appear that these aforementioned purchases, and others that we have not mentioned such as those of Bluepoint Games or Nixxesthey would make Jim Ryan stay satisfied and stop taking his wallet out for a walk, but he has warned again that they are still looking to buy more studios.
he said it again
If you follow the news a bit, and specifically you have followed Sony’s strategy regarding the purchase of studios, you will know that Jim Ryan has said several times that they do not plan to stop in this regard. Now, in a business briefing at Sony, the aforementioned CEO of PlayStation has reiterated its goal of continuing to buy studiosand also explained why they are doing it.
As communicated at this meeting, the acquisition of studies is being done to bolster the strength of PlayStation Studiosbut you have also specified that your other target is gain experience in areas where they have not historically had much of a presence. As we all think Jim Ryan has pointed out that a good example of the latter would be the purchase of Bungiewhich would strengthen PlayStation in the face of its objective of developing several games as a service.
This makes it clear that Sony is interested in continuing to buy studios, something that we could already know from previous statements by Jim Ryan himself, as well as from a job offer published by Sony that was basically a head of studio purchases. Now we have to wait and see which studio Sony decides to buy next.
