Today, Friday, November 25, begins the Great Food Collection 2022, which, after the circumstances forced by the pandemic, resumes physical donations in supermarkets and food stores. The Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL) hopes to collect 21 million kilos of non-perishable products for the most disadvantaged families and people.
Donations can be made physically at more than 11,000 points of sale throughout Spain thanks to the work of the volunteers who collaborate with the entity, and with whom you can still participate through the campaign website. Although the collection points will be active only during the weekend, until next Sunday the 27thare maintained this year virtual donations until December 25, thus coinciding with the Christmas holidays, a mixed model that was already announced last year as a possible system to be implemented.
Speaking to the agency EFE, Peter Llorca, president of the Federation, faces the campaign with optimism despite the fact that it has been a difficult year in which donations have decreased in all the food banks in the country. The global economic crisis, with the increase in inflation and the rise in the cost of basic products and services, has not only reduced the reserves of these centers, it also confirms an increase in the poverty rate in our country and the precariousness of the that more and more families have to face.
From FESBAL they point out that basic staple foods are the priority, such as olive oil, milk and baby food. In addition to physical donations, which seem to encourage people more because they are something more personal and less “cold”, monetary donations can be made in cashier payments until December 5, extending transfers through the web until December 25. of the same month.
