  • The Australian baseball team Perth Heat announced that every time there is a great play by its players, such as a stolen base or a home run, the club will give away bitcoins to its fans.
  • This project called “Stealing Sats” is possible thanks to its association with Bitrefill, Wallet of Satoshi and the company specialized in the Lightning Network infrastructure, IBEX.

One of the strategies that the crypto ecosystem has found to make itself known and add new followers was to ally itself with the most important sports and leagues in the world. As a clear example are fan tokens or NFTs and also advertising in basketball stadiums, Formula 1 circuits and the UFC octagon, just to name a few.

In Australia, one of the most popular teams in the Australian Baseball League, Perth Heatannounced a new initiative that is sure to make a big impact. For every time a player from the aforementioned team steals a base or hits a home run, the club will give away Bitcoin to its fans.

His new project was called “Stealing Sats” (Stealing Sats). All this comes after the association with Bitrefill (company that offers gift cards in BTC), Wallet of Satoshi (popular wallet with Lightning Network) and IBEX (company specialized in Lightning Network infrastructure).

How will fans steal sats? When it’s time for a big performance, A QR code will be displayed on the broadcast of the match and also on the team’s social networks. Just by scanning it with a Lightning Network-enabled wallet, the user will receive their payout, as published by the outlet. Bitcoin Magazine.

“We are delighted to launch Stealing Sats in collaboration with Bitrefill, Wallet of Satoshi and IBEX. This is an innovative way to engage with our fans and offer them something new and exciting. We believe this program will further enhance the fan experience and incentivize fans. our players to strive to achieve the best on the pitch”highlighted Steven Nelkovski, CEO of the Perth Heat.

It is not clear how many sats will be available in each action nor if this amount will be fixed or will depend on each game. Usually faucets of this style, such as mobile games, do not offer more than 10, which is $0.0016898 dollars.

Perth Heat and its relationship with the crypto world

Since 2021, the team has used Bitcoin payments and that same year integrated the Lightning Network. This network has the advantage of being faster and cheaper than the BTC blockchain itself: most transfers are completed in seconds and at no cost to both sender and receiver.

The recently launched program joins #Sats4Stats, which allows fans to incentivize players with cryptocurrency. Each of the 28 players has their own wallet, which can be accessed through their own Web page.

“At IBEX our focus is spreading innovation through the Lightning Network and with the leadership of Perth Heat, #stealingsats and #sats4stats has opened our eyes to a whole new market of global fandom that we hadn’t considered before.s”, highlighted Ry Sterling, IBEX business development.

For his part, Chris Pavlesic, manager of Bitrefill, explained that “with Stealing Sats, fans can now participate in the game in a whole new way.”

“The entire Wallet of Satoshi team is really excited about Stealing Sats with Perth Heat. It’s such an innovative way to show that Bitcoin is easy and for everyone.or,” added Daniel Alexiuc, CEO of Wallet of Satoshi.

The Australian Baseball League ended its recent season on February 5 after starting action on November 10. Perth Heat lost the final by falling to Adelaide Giants. This was the first campaign with a normal course after the 2020-2021 season was reduced to six teams and the 2021-2022 season was cancelled. The league has 40 regular season games and only four of the eight teams advance to the postseason.

It will not yet be known when 2023-2024 will begin, but fans already know that it will be with a surprise. With this initiative, Perth Heat is betting on winning fans all over the world.
