Microsoft has been trying for months solve certain performance problems experienced when playing videogames in Windows 10. Although the latest updates to Patch Tuesdays (all since April) have included news in this regard, certain problems have remained, to the point that the company has been forced to launch a new cumulative update to deal with the problem.
Thus, if you enter your Windows Update right now, you will see that the company has just launched your KB5004296 update for Windows 10 (specifically, for versions 21H1, v20H2 and v2004) as an “optional update”:
That is will not install automaticallyInstead, we must specifically access Windows Update (Windows Configuration> Update and security) to force its installation by clicking on ‘Download and install’.
You can also wait until August ‘Patch Tuesday’, when this update is integrated into the usual monthly compilation update … but if you are a ‘gamer’ and your games have been suffering from the aforementioned problems when running on Windows 10, you may be interested in installing KB5004296 right away.
Remember that, if you prefer not to use Windows Update, you can always continue installing updates after having manually downloaded the corresponding file from the ‘Microsoft Update Catalog’.
The changes included in this update include the following:
Correct a bug that prevents Windows game services from opening certain video games in desktop environments.
Resolves an issue that prevents both certain power consumption profiles and ‘Game Mode’ work as expected, which translates into a lower rate of frames per second in video games and in a worse performance in general of the same.
Fixes an issue that alters the playback volume of certain sounds when we press certain keys or buttons on a gamepad during the execution of a game.

Other fixes (and the ultimate death of Flash)
Additionally, the update fixes other issues related to running the Input Method Editor (on laptops set to automatically turn off when lid is closed) or with the documents printing via USB connections, not to mention a bug that prevents some users from connecting to the Internet after you have been using a virtual private network or VPN.
Finally, apart from the performance improvement and bug fixes, installing this update will also cause the removal of a feature / component pair of our Windows 10:
- Disappears, as already announced a few months ago, sync function between computers on the Windows 10 timeline.
- Lastly, this update too represents the end of the presence of Adobe Flash Player on our Windows computers.
