Pemex, which has boasted of an increase in local sales – helped by regulations that have allowed it to recover the ground requested in recent years after the opening of the sector in 2013-2014 – reported domestic gasoline sales of almost 648,000 bpd in October, 4% less than in the previous month.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assures that Mexico will be self-sufficient in energy by 2024, ceasing to export crude to refine it locally and produce the necessary fuels. However, experts and opponents see it as unattainable due to the deterioration of the refining system and the lengthy start-up of a new plant.
Pemex also reported that crude production was relatively stable at 1.7 million bpd and throughput at its six local refineries reached 808,759 bpd, up 3.7% from September but well below their combined capacity of 1.5 million bpd. and far from the official goal of taking it to one million bpd this year.
Respect for crude oil exportsthe state company reported that they fell 5% in October compared to September to 971,000 bpd, of which 651,000 bpd went to “America” -especially the United States- which represented a 12% increase in the month.
