Ariane and Samantha Buck from Arizona have seen their lives upended by a medical debt of $50,000.
But Ariane Buck was still surprised when her doctor refused to see her because she owed the practice a balance of less than $100.
“That’s not right,” Buck told KHN’s Noam N. Levey. “Everyone should at least be able to go to a doctor when they feel sick.”
Levey discussed the Bucks’ situation with Mary Louise Kelly on “All Things Considered” on NPR on June 22.
