This weekend the movie premiered sonic the hedgehog 2 in theaters in Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, a week earlier than in North America. Apparently the film had a good premiere, because in Paramount Pictures They say they are delighted with its performance.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will hit theaters in North America on April 8, but according to Deadline, the film managed to gross more than $25 million at the box office in its opening weekend, counting only through March 31. According to Paramount, these regions account for half of the global film market.

Paramount Pictures says to be “charmed” with the performance of the film, which has done 2% better than the first installment so far. Regions where Sonic the Hedgehog 2 debuted in the first place include the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Spain, Germany, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Austria, Norway, Belgium, New Zealand, Slovakia, and South Africa.
First impressions of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 were quite positive and spoke of impeccable acting from Jim Carrey, as well as very funny interactions between Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. The studio’s confidence in the franchise is such that one of its producers confirmed that they are creating a Sonic Cinematic Universe.

We’re less than a week away from seeing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in theaters, but the bad news is that it could be the last movie we see Jim Carrey in. Last week Carrey announced that he was going to retire from acting, but it is unknown if this is independent of the Sonic franchise, as sequels have already been confirmed.
