On the night of Tuesday, August 9, and early Wednesday, August 10, groups of criminals spread terror in the municipalities of Celaya, Irapuato, and Silao, in the state of Guanajuato.
According to local media, Oxxo stores, pharmacies and parked vehicles were burned.
According to a statement from the Government Secretariat of Guanajuato, led by Libia Denisse García Muñoz Ledo, the attacks were carried out in the context of a confrontation with a criminal group in a neighboring state.
“As a result of a confrontation in a neighboring state with a criminal group, subjects were identified in two municipalities who tried to set establishments and cars on fire; I share with you that it is confirmed that there are detainees and the criminal action is contained and under control, there are no injuries,” the official posted.
According to García Muñoz Ledo, there was the intentional burning of at least three vehicles in the Girasoles First Section neighborhood and other criminal actions in the sector.
As a result of these events, there are detained people who are members of an alleged criminal group.
In Irapuato, meanwhile, the Ministry of Citizen Security said that there were 11 attacks on commercial establishments and vehicles.
According to local media, the attackers, almost simultaneously, would have used Molotov cocktails to burn the stores in Guanajuato, most of them from the Oxxo chain.
Among the affected businesses are the Oxxo store in the La Pradera neighborhood, in the north, and a Guadalajara pharmacy, in Irapuato, as well as other Oxxos on Irapuato Avenue, in Las Torres de Celaya, and in the Los Fresnos de Silao neighborhood.
They also allegedly tried to burn down an ISSEG pharmacy in Silao without success.
Unconfirmed information says that during the early hours of Wednesday, “due to force majeure”, departures to and from Irapuato, Salamanca and Celaya were suspended.
On social networks, users from the different districts of Guanajuato publish the result of the attacks on Oxxo stores and the conversation revolves around the seriousness of the events.
