Tokyo is no longer a safe place.
This 2022 is destined to be one of the most important years in the recent history of video games. We come from intense years, full of spectacular titles, but the pandemic and its consequences have generated multiple delays in dozens of studies scattered around the world. However, with the situation much more on track today, the year 2022 has been chosen by many teams to set the final release date of their games alongside the titles that were naturally set to release this year. Thus, after a decaffeinated January and a frenetic February, This March 25 will arrive on PlayStation 5 and PC one of the most remarkable games of this year: Ghostwire Tokyo.
This title has been announced for a while now, although we had still seen few details about what this Bethesda title developed by the Japanese team at Tango Gameworks would offer us. In fact, the wait for new images lasted until the night of this February 3, the date on which they showed an interesting 20-minute Showcase. In it we could see many details, although we are not here to talk about it because we already talked about that GhostWire Tokyo video in this news. And it is that, in an exclusive press call, Bethesda showed us more than 25 minutes of pure gameplay in which we discover many more details about how the game works.
In general, if in the recent Showcase we could see gameplay focused on combat and action mechanicswe have witnessed the operation of the map, the methods to advance the story, and even details such as the operation of the secondary missions or the spectacular work of the game in interiors, with brilliant paranormal effects and lots of interaction with the environment. Next, we are going to mention the various details step by step.
A city infested with spirits
Let’s start with the main. We already knew that GhostWire Tokyo is a title in which, controlling Akito’s character in first person, we will have the supernatural powers of KK, a ghost hunter who died and is staying inside our body. We could also see that, in order to free the city from the fog and the Yokais, we would have to purify the various torii arches arranged by the map, which are a gateway for evil entities. As we free these places, we will reduce the fog of tokyogiving us new accessible territories.
Another aspect to highlight are the aforementioned secondary missions. It may seem that we are practically alone in the game, but there will still be some wandering spirits in the city that, being benign entities, they ask us for certain favors in exchange for rewards. These optional missions will be scattered throughout the city and will offer us a curious variety of objectives. We will not mention specific objectives to avoid spoilers, but we can say that they show an attractive and interesting way to extend the experience of the game.
In both open and indoor settings, there will be plenty of room for interaction. In addition to release the torii archeswhich will later serve us to make fast trips, we will also interact with the phone booths to transfer the spirits we catch with our katashiro, a paper doll-shaped amulet that has the quality of absorbing the wandering souls of our world. By doing so, we will gain experience and it will help us to carry out improvements to our skill tree. We can also interact with some flying spirits to ascend to the roofs of nearby buildings, thus increasing the possibilities of exploration that the game has.
We will also find multiple places of interest on the map, such as a store that will be run by an adorable Nekomata. In the store we can buy consumables of various types, as well as additional katashiro to be able to absorb more spirits as we go.
Fight with elemental powers
This aspect is perhaps the most seen, but it never hurts to mention it, since it will be one of our main combat resources. To face the Yokai, we will have to use some of our different powers elementals (or weapons, like the bow) that we have thanks to KK, such as the wind basic attack, the water ranged blow, or the fire attack. We will also have amulets that will give us coverage, such as the electric one, which when thrown will release an area attack.
Of course, we will also have a button to block attacks at the right time and, when the evil spirits are exposed, we can destroy them with a magical thread that promises a lot of feedback with the adaptive triggers of the Dualsense. Once we have destroyed them in this way, these spirits will give us energy in the form of health or “ammunition” for our elemental attacks.
GhostWire Tokyo Action Mechanics Reflect Great Feedback both with our enemies and with the environment. In this way, there is no doubt that the first impressions of this title are quite outstanding, and there is no doubt that, if the final game is finally that satisfactory, we would be facing one of the firm candidates for Game of the Year for this 2022, despite the fact that this year that position is sold very expensive. Along with his magnificent technical section and other immersive sections such as 3D audiothe Tango title has been able to generate very high expectations.
This title comes from behind the scenes to give a great blow on the table, and this March 25 Both PS5 and PC players will be able to enjoy the possibilities that GhostWire Tokyo offers. Furthermore, it is a temporary exclusivity, so Xbox players will also have this title available one year after its release. Of course, having control of Akito with the powers of KK in our hands may be one of the best experiences of this year.
