We have reached the final stretch of the year and the titles that will occupy the nominations for the Oscars 2022 will be released. Film festivals such as Venice and Toronto, and the recent trailers Dune and Don´t Look Up they give us clues of what those awards could be next year.
Nomadland, by Chloé Zhao, swept the awards last year, but this 2021 it will have many more premieres. Denis Villeneuve, Ridley Scott, Wes Anderson, Guillermo del Toro, Paul Thomas Anderson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, etc. All with premieres that will seek the same goal: The Oscar for best film.
Surprises from another galaxy
Dune, by Denis Villeneuve, it is one of the most anticipated films of the year. A film with a huge production level that already saw its premiere at the Venice film festival to applause. The other that could surprise is Eternals, from the Oscar winner for best director and best picture, Chloé Zhao, who now joins Marvel and its superheroes. Remember that Black Panther, In 2018, he managed to sneak into those best picture nominations as a Marvel blockbuster, so the case could be repeated.
The most important of the year
Don’t look up, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, has made us think that this could be one of the candidates to be nominated for best feature film. To the list we must add House of gucci and The last duel from Ridley Scott twice, to Wes Anderson with his The French Dispatch, Steven Spielberg with his musical West Side Story and, although we do not yet know many details about them, the films of Guillermo del Toro and Paul Thomas Anderson, entitled Nightmare Alley and Soggy Bottom respectively. They could all be in that important category as well.
Recent festivals have left us some rough diamonds to include in these predictions. Jane campion and his The Power of The Dog, the new film starring Oscar Isaac The Card Counter, and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s debut film starring Olivia Colman, The Lost Daughter. All critically acclaimed films that have started to sound a lot like awards season surprises.
Among these surprises we could also highlight the biopic of Princess Diana, starring Kristen Stewart, Spencer, and the more than expected The Tragedy of Macbeth by Joel Cohen, starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand.
Dreaming costs nothing
These are just a few projections of what that 94th edition of the Oscars would be like. On this occasion, the category of best film will have 10 titles, unlike previous years in which the number varied between 7, 8 and 9. Now we just have to wait to see these last months of premieres of 2021 and focus on what What will that Oscars ceremony be that is scheduled to take place on March 27, 2022.
