“For IFALPA and the global aviation industry, safety is non-negotiable and should not be influenced by political agendas,” said Captain Jack Netskar, president of IFALPA, in a letter dated May 29, from which Expansion has a copy.
The letter from the Federation is given a week after the postponement of the technical review visit of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to the Federal Agency for Civil Aviation (AFAC) was announced, as a follow-up to the work to recover Category 1 aviation security, downgraded to Category 2 a little over a year ago.
The Federation “calls on the Mexican government to find solutions that ensure the safety of operations in the Mexican airline industry,” the document states.
Almost a month ago, the Federation also issued a security bulletin regarding the entry into operations of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and its simultaneous operation with the AICM, which has generated “incidents” and has drawn attention to the “little training” given to air traffic control personnel to operate in the new airspace layout.
“It is recommended that crews consider carrying additional fuel to allow for prolonged waiting and possible diversions,” IFALPA said in the bulletin issued on May 4. “If you receive an indication that you consider questionable, resolve it for your consideration,” he added about the actions of the pilots in these cases.
