The foldable smartphone market is about to add a new competitor: OnePlus. The Chinese brand has taken advantage of its presence at MWC 2023 to confirm that it plans to launch its first mobile under the aforementioned form factor. Details about the device are scant—if not nonexistent—but the firm hopes that it will be able to quickly gain a place among the public.
The only specific information about the phone that has been revealed during the event in Barcelona is that will arrive during the second half of 2023. Despite the scarcity of information, it is still notable that OnePlus enters the world of folding mobile phones, considering the revitalized interest in this type of equipment.
kinder liu, president and COO of OnePlus, hinted that the brand’s commitment to this form factor will be important. “Our first foldable phone will have the fast and smooth experience characteristic of OnePlus. It’s a flagship phone that will turn heads, not just for its industrial foldable design, but also for its mechanical technology. We wanted to launch a device that aspires to be at the top of today’s foldable market,” he said.
For now, there are no more official news in sight than these. OnePlus promises to provide details of its folding smartphone in the coming months, so it would not be unusual for let’s begin to know some of its main characteristics in a dropper throught social media. After all, it is a fairly recurring marketing practice in the Chinese when it comes to generating anticipation for the launch of a new product.
What to expect from OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone?
As we already said, the characteristics of the first OnePlus folding mobile are still a mystery. Although in the week before the start of MWC 2023 some rumors began to circulate that locate said device in a format very similar to that of the Oppo Find N2.
If this is confirmed, the OnePlus phone would join the competition in a segment that already has great exponents. The most important, without a doubt, are the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 and the aforementioned Oppo smartphone.
In fact, it is speculated that the new device could be a variation of the Find N2. Which would not be unreasonable, considering that both brands are under the umbrella of the giant BBK. Of course, the rumors suggest that, although it would inherit the design and many of the functions of the Oppo model, OnePlus’ folding would hit the market with a better quality 2K screen. It remains to be seen if this is true, as the most relevant data from its technical sheet begins to come to light.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that, beyond its new adventure in the world of foldables, OnePlus intends to develop your own connected ecosystem. The company affirmed an ambitious plan that it intends to realize in the next 3 to 5 years. His idea is to offer a “fast and fluid” experience when interacting with their mobiles, tablets, televisions, wearables and other products.
