With several weeks behind its initial schedule, OnePlus now offers users of an OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro to install the first beta of Android 11. The brand has just announced the opening of the beta program in a post on its official forum.
Initially, OnePlus was expected to roll out the Android 11 update to all 4 smartphones before the end of December 2020. After having encountered data encryption problems during installation, the manufacturer was forced to postpone the launch of the beta and, ultimately, the deployment of the final and stable version.
HOW TO INSTALL THE ANDROID 11 BETA ON THE ONEPLUS 7 AND 7T?
Among the main new features of the OxygenOS 11 overlay, we find an improved Always-on screen, a new interface for the weather forecast, a new button dedicated to dark mode in the quick settings. Above all, OnePlus is rolling out a new codec for images and videos: HEVC. This video encoding standard enables the size of stored videos to be reduced without compromising on quality. This is a compression format that appeared in 2016.
Please note, this beta version exposes your smartphone to certain bugs and malfunctions. OnePlus expects in particular an increase in energy consumption (reducing autonomy), slowness in the Gallery application, a sound problem with the Bluetooth headphones and latency of the automatic adjustment of the brightness of the screen. If these bugs don’t scare you, follow this maneuver to install the beta:
- Download the ROM corresponding to your smartphone via the OnePlus forum: OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T
- Copy the upgrade package to the storage of the smartphone
- Go to Settings> System> System Updates
- Then click on the icon at the top right then on Local upgrade> Click on the installation zip corresponding to your model> Update> System update 100% complete.
- When the update is complete, click Restart.
Note that if you have opted for a smartphone linked to a subscription with an operator, you will not be able to join the beta program. Finally, the brand recommends making sure that your smartphone has at least 30% battery before starting the download.
