  • It is expected that as of September 2022, free services will begin for all people, regardless of whether they are not entitled.
  • Like the already existing IMSS Welfare, the priority is to serve low-income people free of charge.

One of the main promises of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been to offer free care and medicines to the entire population. Until now, he has not achieved it, but today a new program was announced with which he hopes to achieve it. Its about ISSSTE Well-being and one of its priorities is to offer free services to those most in need.

Where will the program start?

In this case, the director of ISSSTE, Pedro Zenteno Santaella, presented this new care model. He also indicated that in this first stage he will focus on the inhabitants of rural areas of Oaxaca.

He assured that the health sector is working to enhance capacity and guarantee the full right to health for those who do not have social security. Precisely that is the vision of this new program that joins the IMSS Welfare.

“Today we are ratifying that the ISSSTE is in the best disposition to help in this ISSSTE Wellness model. It is the integration of the health sector and it is something unprecedented in the country. Medical care will be strengthened for those who do not have social security and end the fragmentation of the sector.”

Before the governor of Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa; the elected governor, Salomón Jara Cruz; the general director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo Aburto, and the director of the Health Institute for Well-being (Insabi), Juan Antonio Ferrer Aguilar, Pedro Zenteno added that an exchange of health services will be carried out so that the infrastructure can be occupied 100 percent. In addition to touring the Civil Hospitals of Oaxaca “Dr. Aurelio Valdivieso”, of the Oaxacan Childhood and the Psychiatric Hospital “Cruz del Sur”, the general director went to the General Hospital for Oaxacan Women and Children, where he stated “This hospital belongs to us and we are going to start it now, because the need is very urgent. It will be in operation in the first fortnight of September, but with another vision, we are going to integrate the Health sector in the state to improve the service to beneficiaries”.

As part of his national tour of the Institute’s clinics, Pedro Zenteno visited the FMUs of Ocotlán de Morelos and San Pablo Huixtepec. There he verified the conditions in which they operate to determine actions to follow in order to improve the service they provide to the entitled.

At the San Pablo Huixtepec FMU, care is provided to four thousand beneficiaries in two shifts. It has a dentistry office equipped with a new unit, but it does not have a doctor, so the general director of Issste instructed the administrative staff of Oaxaca to immediately carry out the procedures and hire a dentist.

“This is incredible, but we are going to solve it now, because we have committed ourselves in the first level clinics with two very important services: the laboratory and dental service. Here we already have the dentist and we are going to hire the doctor to provide service as soon as possible”.

During his visit to the Family Medicine Units (FMU) of Ocotlán de Morelos and San Pablo Huixtepec, he reported that the Oaxaca clinics will be discharged so that the air conditioners have good maintenance or are replaced to improve the service provided to the rights holders.

the owner of the ISSSTE pointed out that it is essential to guarantee the right to health of affiliatesto contribute to a healthy society, with quality service in all medical units, primarily in primary care centers.
