With just two episodes aired, the network HBO officially announced that the adaptation of The Last Of Us It has been renewed for a Season 2.
The television drama starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, based on the popular video game saga developed by NaughtyDog, has enjoyed universal acclaim from the public and specialized critics. But even more important, that appreciation has translated into viewers. The Last of Us scored the second-biggest debut in a decade for HBO behind only The dragon house. Since then, the series has accumulated 22 million viewers on all platforms in the United States alone.

“I’m honored, honored and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our narrative of Joel and Ellie’s journey,” Neil Druckmann, creator of the original games and co-creator, said in a statement.showrunner from the series live action. “The collaboration with Craig Mazin [co-showrunner de The Last of Us], our incredible cast and crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations. Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with the second season!”
There are still no details about the creative plan for the second season, but the showrunners Druckmann and Mazin hinted in an interview with THR that the series would not waste time before delving into the history of The Last of Us Part II. Likewise, they have no intention of going beyond what exists in video games.
“I am very grateful to Neil Druckmann and HBO for our partnership, and I am even more grateful to the millions of people who have joined us on this journey,” added Mazin, also creator of the acclaimed miniseries Chernobyl. “The audience has given us a chance to continue, and as a fan of the characters and world that Neil and Naughty Dog created, I couldn’t be more ready to dive back in.”
The Last of Us premieres a new episode every Sunday through the HBO channel and the platform streaming HBO Max.
