There is no doubt that at some point reality will end up surpassing fiction, and it seems that we are getting closer and closer to reaching that point. Artificial intelligence has proven to be one of the most valuable learning tools in recent years, and the most recent example of NVIDIA and Grand theft auto v proves it.
Harrison Kinsley and Daniel Kukeila, two researchers from NVIDIA, have created a project called GAN Theft Auto, which uses the company’s technologies to create a neural network that generates a playable fragment of GTA V. Here I explain exactly how this works.
Basically 16 bots were used to play GTA in the same area for several hours. After the AI collected enough information, it was able to recreate the same place. Of course, this AI is still not able to perfectly recreate each of these areas, which is why the image continues to be blurred.
The interesting thing about the project is that this version does not use graphics engines, any lines of code or anything like that. It works entirely as a visual recreation with the help of a graphics card. It still requires a lot of work and power to be a viable project individually, but the researchers see potential in this.
In fact, it is possible to download and play this demo, but it will be necessary to have a graphics card of NVIDIA with at least 8GB of VRAM. Here the download link.
