Nothing, the mysterious company of Carl Pei, one of the founders of OnePlus, recently announced its first product: the Ear (1). These headphones, advertised as a cheaper alternative and similar in performance to the AirPods Pro, could soon receive a great companion. According 91Mobiles, The company will fully launch its first smartphone next year.
Nothing’s mobile will hit the market in early 2022. At the moment, details about the features or its possible design are scarce, and will remain so until weeks before its launch, as happened with the brand’s headphones. In fact, all we know is that company has announced a partnership with Qualcomm. Therefore, it is very likely that the first OnePlus smartphone will arrive with a processor from the American manufacturer.
That Nothing bets on a smartphone is not something that is strange. The company, let us remember, acquired in February 2021 the startup Essential, founded by Andy Rubin (the creator of Android) in 2015 and closed in 2020. The aforementioned media assures that the purchase caused Nothing to obtain the brands and commercial names of Andy Rubin’s company, as well as its patented technologies.
Nothing will also launch an external battery
Before announcing its first Android smartphone, Nothing will launch an external battery of which only the name is known: Nothing Power (1). This could arrive in the next few weeks or before the end of the year, adding one more accessory to the ecosystem of Carl Pei’s company. At the moment, their catalog only consists of one product, the Nothing Ear (1).
The headphones, on sale from this summer for a price of 99 euros, include features very similar to the AirPods Pro, such as active noise cancellation, a case with wireless charging or, in this case, an app to configure some sound parameters to suit the user. However, the most striking feature of these headphones is their design. The Ear (1) are completely transparent, exposing the small components necessary for its operation. We do not know, for the moment, if Nothing will apply the same design line in its next products.
