The trajineras of Teúl
The trajinera is a type of flat-bottomed boat made of planks and waterproofed with a petroleum rubber that in Mexico it’s called chapopote. In fact, the use of trajineras dates back to the time of the Aztec Empire and the old Tenochtitlán. And thanks to these trajineras, the Xochimilco Canals They are one of the most emblematic places in the City of Mexico. In fact, in Teúl there is a very particular hydrological event, ideal for navigating trajineras: La Presa la Ticuata or Manuel Caloca. This dam was inaugurated in September of the year 1982 by the then president of the republic Jose Lopez Portillo. At the time the sole purpose of the dam was to store water, however, over time it became a tourist attraction.
