With five platforms and 35 common vehicles by 2030, the powerful alliance that includes Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi is finally determined to go full force in the electric car market.
In an announcement made this Thursday, January 27, from Paris and Tokyo, Renault and Nissan announced that they will work together on an ambitious electric vehicle manufacturing program.
The investment plan and the marketing strategy have already been outlined, it only remains to start disbursing the 26 billion dollars planned over the next five years.
The goal is to prevent rivals from taking over the entire electricity market, especially the two most powerful companies in the sector that compete for first place alongside Nissan-Renault: Volkswagen and Toyota.
The 20-year-old alliance that includes Mitsubishi Motors said it will increase the number of common electric vehicle platforms from four to five and that the idea is to build a combined lineup of 35 electric vehicles by 2030.
By 2026, 80 percent of Nissan and Renault models would share common platforms. Currently it is 60 percent.
