Just over a year ago, Niantic, creators of Pokémon Go and other augmented reality titles, announced that they had ten games in development. One of them was ‘Catan World Explorers’, an augmented reality title which had been unveiled for the first time the year before, in 2019.
Everything indicated that it would reach the market soon and even the beta had already been released in some countries, but finally Niantic has decided to cancel its launch. That means that the game will not land in more countries and, in which it has already done so in beta form, it will no longer be available from November 18.
The balance can be transferred to Pokémon GO
‘Catan World Explorers’ was born as a project developed by the CATAN and Asmodee team using Niantic’s Real World Platform. It was presented for the first time in 2019, but it took until July 2020 for the beta to start reaching some countries, specifically, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Denmark and Switzerland.
The goal was to bring the popular board game franchise – or at least some of its elements – into the real world, turning your neighborhood and the whole world into a game of Catan where you should harvest, trade and build to turn points on the map into settlements. In the style of ‘Pokémon GO’, but focused on the control of resources and trade.
Now Niantic, through the game’s community page, has announced that ‘Catan World Explorers’ will not be extended to more countries, it will stop its development and, in addition, the beta will no longer be available to play on November 18, 2021. In fact, the game has already been removed from the App Store in those countries where it was possible to download the beta and real money purchases have been removed from the store. A Niantic spokesperson has justified the decision by saying that:
“Trying to adapt such a well-designed board game to a global, location-based massively multiplayer online (MMO) game was a difficult challenge. We are very proud of the game we made, but we got a little complicated and moved away from the original game. of CATAN “.
To compensate players, Niantic will increase the bonuses for the remaining weeks and allow the gold coins to be spent before the end of the game by reducing the prices of the items in the store. Also, in case a player wants to, you can transfer your unused balance to Pokémon GO as long as you request it before November 1 by following these steps.
