Let’s start at the beginning: what kind of person buys a projector? The most common is that it is a person who seeks to place it in a room or living room, to use it outside, for example on summer nights, or to take it to a second residence. In all these cases, the most normal thing is that the budget to buy it is not high, around 500 euros.
On March 22, we were seeing the new XGIMI projectors, the MoGo2 and MoGo2 Pro models and, although it has some important shadows, it also has good things.
If we start with the positive points, they weigh just over a kilo, so it can be taken anywhere. Also includes ISA 2.0 technology that is capable of making focus corrections automatically. Also, despite its small size, it has quite acceptable sound quality, at least indoors.
As for the shadows, the normal version of MoGo2 has an image quality of 720p, something for the vast majority unacceptable. The Pro model however goes up to 1080p, also a bit fair, and that also increases its price from 399 euros of the normal version to 599 euros. Also, compared to its predecessor, it does not have its own battery and we will have to constantly feed it to a source, be it a plug or a power bank.
The biggest cons: 720p resolution
During our demo we were only able to test the Pro model, with a resolution of 1080p, but the regular model, which is also on sale today, it has a 720p resolution. This makes it not a highly recommended option for the vast majority of users who decide to take the leap and buy a projector. While everyone knows that when you buy a low-priced projector you can’t expect great image quality, for $400 there are other projectors that offer 1080p.
The XGIMI MoGo2 Pro version already goes up to something more decent, 1080p, which allows you to view content with good image quality but it is not an option if, for example, you are thinking of replacing it with a television. It should be remembered that for 599 euros, you have 4K televisions.
As for brightness, from XGIMI they tell us that it has 400 ISO lumens. Note that these are neither LED lumens nor ANSI lumens with a different conversion. If you are looking for a projector, pay attention to this point because you will see many, of similar price and performance, with 3600 lumens, but they are LED lumens.
In the time that we have been able to test it, although it does not stand out for its incredible brightness, it is quite acceptable and does not require absolute darkness on the screen where we project it.
The main advantage: autofocus technology
Someone passes by and moves the projector. Or your pet decides it doesn’t like where you put it and moves it. XMIGI’s new projectors feature automatic autofocus technology. Specifically, the XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro model has ISA 2.0 with which, the projector performs keystone corrections and focus adjustments automatically without interruption. The result is that the image is automatically corrected in a couple of seconds. It also has an eye protection system by which the projection light is attenuated if a person stands in front of it.
The normal model also has a simpler version of Intelligent Screen Adaptation to make the projector setup in less time.
Acceptable sound quality
Both the normal model and the Pro model offer sound quality that is not bad, especially indoors. At the hardware level, it is equipped with two 8W speakers that offer immersive sound. It significantly improves the choice of the previous model, which only had 3W and which is one of the reasons for eliminating the battery that made it not have to depend on the network connection.
As for configuration mode, it includes four types: Cinema, Sports, Music and News.
The new XGIMI MoGo2 go on sale on April 25, although pre-reservation can already be made at the main stores.
