New World, the MMO of Amazon Game Studios, it had been going strong since the beta. The player figures on Twitch were spectacular upon launch, and it managed to become the fifth-busiest game in Steam history at the time. But as Isaac Newton said, everything that goes up must come down, and that is also doing well to the game.
Forbes journalist Paul Tassi – well known among fans of Destiny 2 and other online RPGs – has shared a new article analyzing New World’s performance over the weeks, based on reports from Steam Charts. According to his findings, the game loses about 135,000 faithful between one Sunday (busiest day) and another.
Below these lines you have the peaks of New World players in the last month.
- October 3: 913,000 players
- October 10: 726,000 players
- October 16: 608,000 players
- October 23: 508,000 players
- October 31: 373,378 players
That an MMO losing players is not unusual. It happens to everyone, consistently – every time World of Warcraft releases a new expansion, its activity rates skyrocket. As players complete core content or new games hit stores, the numbers stabilize to a dedicated user bed that keep the ship afloat.
Why is it important to know then that New World loses players? Well because being a new IPAnd, and the first successful release for AGS, finding that minimal foundation that supports the game no matter what happens around it is key to understanding how it will evolve over time. For now, we will settle to know that even being detrimental, it remains firmly in the Steam top 10.
