Once again, the team behind Call of Duty reminds us that they take the issue of cheating and annoying players within their title very seriously, as they are working on the anti-cheat mechanics of Call of Duty. Call of Duty: Vanguardand we’re told a new preventative measure it sometimes employs against cheaters, as now instead of just kicking them out of the game right away, Team Ricochet sometimes just removes all of a player’s weapons (including their fists) so that they cannot cause damage with the tricks they may be using at the time.
This new measure is called “Disarm”and while it’s unclear how long this has been a tactic used by Team Ricochet as part of Ricochet’s anti-cheat systems Call of DutyThis week was the first time the team had talked about it publicly.
Well, following a post on their official blog offering the latest on anti-cheating efforts, there was some talk about disarming cheaters, but the anti-cheat team warned gamers that they probably won’t see too many clips of this solution posted online:
“Today we share another mitigation technique from our toolbox: Disarm”the blog post said. “As the name implies, when cheaters are detected, we simply remove their weapons (including fists). We don’t expect many clips of this to find their way online, but we’ve seen it in action and the reactions of cheaters every time. They are invaluable.”
We must admit that this is a creative way to deal with cheaters, but now the question from players is why Team Ricochet it doesn’t kick players out the moment they’re determined to cheat rather than messing with them using tricks like this and others described in the blog that include making cheaters’ targets invisible.
On this, the blog said that these solutions are called “mitigations” and are used “to keep cheaters in the game to analyze their data and reduce their ability to affect a legitimate player’s experience”.
In fact, this is the first time we’ve heard of the disarm hack, but Team Ricochet teased that it sometimes employs more workarounds which he’ll maybe talk about later: “We have other mitigations that we will probably talk about in the future. Some are active now; some are in development”said the post. “Beyond their mission to combat unfair gaming, we have a second somewhat secret mission to piss off as many cheaters as we can.”
