When it comes to streaming, fewer names have dominated the space than Netflix over the years, though the company has been facing intense competition from other services lately. In the midst of all this, Netflix has its eyes set on another sector through its Netflix Games initiative.
And it seems that Netflix Games could have bigger ambitions in the pipeline. Back in July 2021, Netflix announced that it would expand its platform to video games, initially focusing on mobile titles. Although the service launched with only five titles, Netflix Games now offers more than 20 mobile titles on its platform.
So far, the streaming giant has indicated that Netflix plans to offer close to 50 games by the end of 2022. However, it seems that Netflix Games could be looking to further expand its presence in games through cloud services.
In recent months, Netflix has been increasing its gaming capabilities. In March of this year, Netflix acquired Boss Fight Entertainment, its third game studio purchase in a six-month span. Now, according to a recent job posting, Netflix is looking for a Render Engineer to support its streaming service. cloud gaming.
It is claimed that the prospective employee will help the company optimize game rendering so that Netflix can “render multiple games on our cloud gaming devices.” The listing further says that the engineer will help with “SDK development to enable game developers to succeed in writing high-quality games for the Netflix cloud gaming ecosystem.”
Netflix has yet to officially announce any cloud service offerings in regards to its game plans. Though the company is likely to continue to expand its gaming department considering its Netflix cloud gaming ecosystem ambitions.
But as far as confirmations go, the company has only claimed that more games tied to Netflix shows are on the way, with the promise that there will be no ads, extra fees, or in-app purchases. In any case, it will be interesting to see how Netflix navigates the already competitive cloud space.
