When it was announced that there would be a series based on ‘Usagi Yojimbo’, many of us threw the house out the window because it was about time for an adaptation as God commands of the Sakai comics. Of course, Netflix did not take long to clarify that the series will be set in the future and starring Yuichi, a descendant of Miyamoto Usagi who leads a band of unlikely heroes.
Since the project was confirmed, we have definitely had little news about the production, but we have already been able to see several images of what the series will look like, its cast in the original version, and yes, a premiere date.
Netflix has confirmed the release of ‘Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles’ for the next one 28th of April. Candie and Doug Langdale are the showrunners, writers and executive producers of the series, in the latter position alongside Stan Sakai himself.
Previously, the Langdales have developed ‘The Adventures of Puss in Boots’ and ‘Scooby-Doo! Shaggy’s Showdown’, so judging by this trajectory and the final style of the animation, it is very possible that in the end the series will pull towards a more childish target instead of an adult tone. The series will also a science fiction tonewhich will combine elements of the genre with those of feudal Japan that characterize the original comics.
‘Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles’ focuses on yuichi, a teenager who embarks on an epic adventure to become a true samurai. Along the way he will have to face all kinds of enemies, from moles from the depths to monsters from another dimension.
