The actress Natalie Portman has had a series of interviews for the promotion of the next film of Marvel Studioswho joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jane Foster in the 2011 Thor movie, mentions that at the time, Jane Foster had not wielded the power of Thor in the comics, since during the Thor #1 comic, the number in which Jane Foster becomes Thor, was not released until December 2014.
By this time, Portman had returned to portray Jane in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, focused on her role as an astrophysicist in the Marvel Cinematic World, when Marvel Comics decided that Jane would become Thor in their pages, to which Portman comments that “never” he thought he would get a chance to take on the role:
“It’s definitely amazing to have these Jane as Mighty Thor comics that Taika gave me the first time we met as this kind of idea of what it could be.”said Portman, to which Taika Waititi brought Jane Foster as Thor to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this story that was formally announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 and will be unleashed on the world when Thor: Love and Thunder.
“I never did it”said Portman when asked if he thought in 2014 that he would take on the role of Thor. “I was really excited about the idea of playing an astrophysicist in a movie of this size. I thought it was a great opportunity to portray. And then the comic that had this idea of Jane becoming Mighty Thor was only published in 2014. So It was, like, several years after I started being a part of the movie. So, that’s when it started to come up as an idea.”
Now, Portman is an expert on Thor. Not only did he push himself physically to get strong for the role of Thor in Love and Thunder, but Chris Hemsworth trained her on how to wield the hammer, even when the hammer isn’t actually there. “There were several versions and there is even the invisible version”Portman explained. “Most of the time, and I would even go so far as to say most of the time, you’re working with nothing, which was very helpful having Chris there, you know, and his experience walked me through how he seems to do it. you’re holding, even when you know you’re not really holding anything.
