Among the elements that make up this cloud, we have aluminum dust (the fuel), the mineral salt of perchloric acid (oxidant) and polybutadiene acrylonitrile, also known as PBAN (binder). All of this is combined with “water vapor and nitrogen gas, and a lot of energy,” NASA says.
