Movistar is present From the first moment in Emergency Room 112 called by the Government of the Canary Islands, it has moved two mobile units to La Palma and there are three on the way to attend to possible service incidents and ensure the necessary increase in network capacities in those populations that are hosting to the displaced neighbors, especially the San Rafael barracks in Las Breñas, the Los Llanos soccer field and the El Paso soccer field.
The lava tongues from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma continue to advance slowly and devastate everything in their path. We have consulted directly with the operator Movistar about the actions that are being carried out in La Palma and this is what they have told us:
Unlimited data and billing stoppage
From the past September 18, Movistar has activated unlimited data and it has paralyzed the billing of the Internet and fixed telephony service to all its clients in the area affected by the Cumbre Vieja volcano. They have also frozen any administrative process of these clients as equipment return or debt management. Customers in the affected areas can also contact Movistar through its customer service.
Secondly, Telefónica Spain has been reinforcing its infrastructures and equipment on the island of La Palma since last Saturday to ensure digital communications in the affected area. There are already more than 6,100 people affected by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island. Many of the inhabitants of the affected area of Todoque have lost all their belongings and others only have 15 minutes to pack a lifetime.
Moving teams
Until La Palma they have moved generator sets coming from the island of Tenerife and even from the Peninsula to guarantee the energy supply of the key sites, as well as 4 × 4 vehicles to reinforce the mobile service, and trucks with all kinds of technical spare parts.
Telefónica’s human team and its collaborating companies on the island of La Palma have been reinforced with professionals dedicated mainly to maintenance of the installations and teams already collaborate with the island’s authorities. The operator informs us that so far no relevant incidents have been recorded in any of the communication services provided by Movistar on La Palma, but this special device for technical and human reinforcement will remain on the island until normality is restored.
