Movistar currently has only three channels in 4K: LaLiga UHD by Movistar+, Champions League by Movistar+, and DAZN F1 4K. They are all oriented to see live content in the best resolution, but not even those channels broadcast in 4K continuously. However, now there is going to be a new channel in 4K.
Movistar has two 4K test channels: 4K Tests and 4K Tests 2. In 4K Tests there are normally no broadcasts, but now soccer has started to be broadcast with ambient sound, and a loop of promotions. In Tests 2 4K, only the Movistar curtain appears, which is usually seen when there is no content to watch, so there are no changes.
The channel in 4K can be for the Olympics
For this reason, it is quite suspicious that Movistar has begun to broadcast content on that channel, where it seems that it is preparing to add something related to the imminent Beijing 2022 Winter Olympicswhich will be held between February 4 and 20, 2022. The broadcasting rights of the competition are held by Eurosport, and its 4K channel usually appears on the televisions of the operators and on European satellites when a major tournament is played or at each major event of the Olympic Games.
Movistar has also added Eurosport 3 to its offer of channels, substituting the channels of Movistar Sports while the event is broadcast. This channel will be available temporarily, since it is expected that at the end of February it will disappear and the Eurosport 1 and 2 channels will be maintained again.
As for the satellite, there are currently two slots available after the departure of FOX Life and Travel, and it seems clear that one of them is going to be occupied by a new Eurosport channel in HD. What we do not know is if that channel will be available permanently
Disney + is already seen in 4K on Movistar Plus +
Finally, another novelty related to 4K in Movistar Plus+ is that it is now possible to see content in UHD via Disney+ on the Movistar UHD deco. The application has been available since spring of last year, and allowed content search to be integrated within the Movistar deco so as not to have to use the applications separately.
Now if you have the deco UHD connected to a 4K TV, you can now enjoy the Disney content in 4K as long as they are available at that resolution on the platform. The rollout has started this week, and will end throughout February. However, what seems like it will take a while to arrive is still the content in HDR, which is available in the content of Movistar and other platforms such as Netflix or Prime Video.
