Saroo’s life seems like something out of a movie, because at the age of 5 he got lost on his way home and couldn’t find his family until 25 years later. He finds out what happened in all that time.
Saroo’s moving story is a reflection of the hard life that some children in the world have had. In this case, I was very young when it got lost and managed to find his home after 25 years. By that time, clearly a lot had happened.
His experience was so amazing that it seemed like a movie script. At only 5 years old he found himself alone and lost. He stayed on the street and survived the worst dangers. Heartbreaking, right? Although we already went ahead a little and revealed that the ending is happy: after 25 years, he finally managed to find her home.
Saroo’s moving story
Saroo worked with his older brother as a train sweeper. in India. It was around this stage that the moment that would give his life a sharp turn occurred.
“It was very late at night. We got off the train and I was so tired that I sat in a station and ended up falling asleep. I thought my brother was going to come back to wake me up, but when I opened my eyes he was no longer in sight. I saw a train in front of me and I thought maybe I was on that train. So I decided to get on, I figured I’d find my brother.”
After this, Saroo was unable to get his brother into the coaches. Since he was still very tired, he went back to sleep and it was another 14 hours before he woke up. At that moment, realized that he was in the city of Calcutta.
“I was absolutely scared. He didn’t know where he was. I started looking for people and asking questions. It was a very scary place. I don’t think any mother or father would want their five-year-old son wandering alone through the slums and train stations of Calcutta.”
Saroo was alone and lost, not knowing how to get home. He, too, received no help from anyone and he had no choice but to become one of the thousands of children begging in the streets.
Despite his young age, he already knew a little about the dangers of life. This was so because of his experience working on the tracks with his brother. What’s more, while he lived on the street he became more and more cunningdistrusting even a man who promised him shelter, food and help to get home.
alone and lost
Since he lived in a vulnerable situation, Saroo ended up in an orphanage. There was adopted by the Brierleys, a Tasmanian family.
Faced with this panorama, the boy clarifies that he accepted the fact that he was lost and that he could not find his way back home. Because of that, he ended up liking the idea of going to Australia.
Many years passed in which the boy had a life full of love and tranquility in his new home. However, Saroo missed his birth family and wanted to let them know that he was okay. The problem was that being illiterate when he got lost, he couldn’t even remember the name of his hometown.
Luckily, modern life offers us various useful location tools such as Google Earth. Through these facilities, Saroo began to search for his city, trying to activate his childhood visual memory.. He related his strategy to approach the right place:
“I multiplied the time I spent on the train, about 14 hours, by the speed of the Indian trains, and I arrived at a distance of approximately 1,200 kilometers.”
He then drew a circle in the center of the city of Calcutta, with the radius around the distance he had found in his calculations. Fortunately, this strategy worked. found the place you were looking for: Khandwa.
“When I found it, I pushed the computer and it blew up, it just popped up. I virtually visited the waterfall where I used to play.”
The touching story of this boy again had an unexpected twist. Discovering the place where he lived before, he packed his bags and went to his old home. Saroo fervently and excitedly wanted to see his family again. And the closer he got, the more memories arose.
When Saroo found his home…
Saroo headed to Ganesh Talai neighborhood. “When I got to the door, I saw a lock. He looked old and shabby, like no one had lived there for a long time.”bill.
With great anxiety, he began asking about his family members among the neighbors. At first, it wasn’t easy to get an answer, but the young man hadn’t gone this far to give up. yesAroo persisted with his questions until someone offered to take him to his mother.
“I felt numb and thought: Am I hearing what I think I’m hearing?”
Saroo’s excitement was indescribable, as after such a moving and hard story, he was going back to his origins. She waited a long time to be able to get in touch with her life and her memory as a child.
The desire to see his biological mother again became as intense as when he was 5 years old and he realized that he was totally lost.
“The last time I saw her she was 34 years old and a beautiful lady. She had forgotten that the weight of her age would affect her. But her facial structure was still there, I recognized her and said, ‘Yes, you’re my mother.’ She took me by the hand and led me to her house. She couldn’t tell me anything. I think she was just as numb as I was. She found it difficult to understand that her son, after 25 years, had reappeared as a ghost.
Finally, mother and son met and, when they could calm down, they caught up on everything that had happened. For her, life had not been easy either. Her youngest child was lost and her eldest was found dead on the train tracks a month after Saroo disappeared.
A touching story with a happy ending
After the reunion, S.aroo knew that his mother never gave up hope of finding him again. Also, a fortune teller had told him that one day the two would see each other again.
In this heartwarming story, both Saroo and his mother always thought of each other. Each one had that love in mind and kept the hope of meeting again..
“It took the weight off me. Now I sleep much better”
Without a doubt, some stories are so amazing that they seem like a movie script. In this case, the story was so shocking that it caught the attention of Hollywood.
That’s how they made a movie called Lion: A Journey Home, an adaptation of everything that happened in Saroo’s life. A great experience immortalized with a film that now sets the example of resilience and love.
