In 2022, the number of internet users in the world will reach 4.95 billion people.
The average global Internet user spends 6 hours and 43 minutes online every day.
Global retail e-commerce sales are projected to reach $5.4 trillion in 2022.
The world has been revolutionized in recent years thanks to the arrival of new technological tools such as the Internet. Given this, a new study details that most people cannot spend a day without the digital world.
It is no secret to anyone that the Internet has revolutionized many areas and especially that of communications in a radical way to the point of becoming a global means of daily communication in our lives.
According to data from the Digital 2022 report carried out by We Are Social and Hootsuitethe number of Internet users in the world reached 4.95 billion people, which represents 62.5 percent of the world population, which is 7.91 billion people.
The evolution of the Internet has been further increased by the arrival of smartphones, where users on mobile devices, in January 2022, reached 67.1 percent of the population, that is, 5 thousand 310 million people, which represents an increase of 1.8 percent year over year, and to have more context on this figure, it is an increase of 95 million users in the last 12 months.
Internet use in the world
A survey and research conducted by OnePoll on behalf of WithSecurewhere they interviewed two thousand Americans, revealed that almost 48 percent of people cannot live without their electronic devices and Wi-Fi.
This shows that we use the internet today for almost everything, from sharing a moment with a friend by sending a photo via instant messaging to ordering a pizza or buying a television.
Remember that before, if we wanted to read a newspaper, we had to buy a local paper edition when the newsstand opened with the previous day’s news. Today, with a single click, we can not only read our local newspaper, but also the newspaper from anywhere in the world, with a permanent content update.
The research also delved into global connectedness and cybersecurity.
When it comes to their personal data, 37 percent admit they feel “somewhat secure” about their cloud storage system.
Respondents mentioned some advantages of having a cloud data storage system, such as backup and recovery while 51 percent, security 42 percent and easy access 41 percent.
While 37 percent said they value privacy, 36 percent reliability, and 33 percent having the cloud across multiple devices.
While the cloud can be useful, respondents also noted some of the disadvantages users face in the cloud, including hacking at 48 percent and phishing at 33 percent from external sources, technical issues at 44 percent, and data loss only 38 percent.
“Three-quarters of breaches can be prevented by using strong passwords and multi-factor authentication and by being vigilant for suspicious emails,” said Paul Brucciani, cyber security advisor at WithSecure.
“Having effective cybersecurity measures in place and always backing up your data will reduce a lot of risk and should be our first priority,” he added.
And this is how various investigations are delving into the use that humanity is giving to the digital world thanks to the internet, where people have a presence on social networks and on any platform.
