The British firm and the University of Wolverhampton School of Engineering have jointly developed a racing version of the new 4-cylinder Morgan Plus Four. At the moment only two prototypes have been manufactured, but the project aims to create a racing-client version available to any amateur driver.
Although it is strange, given the playful and retro character of all the models of this traditional British manufacturer, Morgan has decided to develop a version specially configured for circuit of the new Morgan Plus Four.
This project has been carried out jointly with the University of Wolverhampton School of Engineering, with the sole intention of creating a true racing version of the British two-seater, making it the first track variant created on Morgan’s new CX platform.
Morgan has recently revamped its entire range with the introduction of not just new models but a new aluminum deck that replaces the aging wood paneled frame it has been using for decades. The new mechanics of its current range have also been completely renewed and are now provided by BMW. A 258 hp 2.0-liter 4-cylinder in the case of the Morgan Plus Four and a 340 hp in-line 6-cylinder in the case of the more powerful Morgan Plus Six.
Racing variant
At the moment, Morgan and the University of Wolverhampton have presented only two prototypes of this circuit variant, but the intention of both was to develop from the first moment a true racing version that can be marketed by the company so that private teams and drivers can participate in various events and championships.
At the moment we do not have the specifications of these racing versions, we only know that have reinforced frame diagrams and the usual and mandatory passenger compartment security systems, necessary to be able to homologate the model in competition, although curiously the units presented are still registrable.
