The union said its members are “willing to do whatever it takes to get a better newsroom for everyone.”
The strike should not prevent the publication of the paper on Friday. An article published in the online edition specifies that during the stoppage, “non-unionized workers in the newsroom will be largely responsible for the production of information”
Other media in the US go on strike
The American press has suffered, like all the media, the blow of the covid pandemic and is now affected by high inflation.
In the media sector, journalists from the Pittsburgh Post Gazetteowned by Block Communications, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegramowned by McClatchy, are currently on indefinite strike.
On November 4, more than 200 syndicated journalists from 14 Gannett-owned outlets—including the desert sun of California and the Asbury Park Press of New Jersey—participated in a one-day strike.
In August, nearly 300 Thomson Reuters journalists in the United States, also represented by the New York NewsGuild, staged a 24-hour strike while the union negotiates with the company for a new three-year contract.
