Our recipe for Monte Cristo sandwich It is a version of the classic. We use a mixture of mayonnaise and mustard to spread the bread. We also added an extra slice to make it the perfect bite to share. Although it is quite possible that there is someone in the room who can bend it happily and without blinking in one sitting. Let’s go to the mess.
Mix the mayonnaise with the mustard and spread the three slices of bread on one side, reserving a little of the sauce for later. On one of the slices of bread we place the slice of Gruyère cheese and two slices of pork. We cut them or fold them in if they were larger than the bread slices, they should not stick out.
Place a slice of bread on top of the pork, with the sauce-smeared side down. Spread the other side with the reserved sauce. Place two slices of pork shoulder and one of Gruyère cheese on top and cover with the third slice of bread, sauce side down.
We beat the egg and milk in a deep plate and submerge the sandwich in the mixture. Let the base hydrate before turning it over to soak the opposite side. We fry in a pan with a finger of hot oil, over medium heat. When it has browned on one side, carefully flip it over and brown the other.
Remove from the pan and drain the excess oil, leaving rest the sandwich on absorbent paper. We serve hot, sprinkling the surface with a little icing sugar and accompanying it with strawberry, raspberry or flavor jam that you like the most.
