For years, PlayStation and Activision have had an exclusivity agreement when it comes to the Call of Duty franchise. Thanks to this agreement, PlayStation players have received exclusive content, with entire game modes that, in some cases, are exclusive to PlayStation consoles.
And it is expected that the next Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 continue this trend, even with Microsoft’s impending acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Since it has already been leaked that PlayStation players will be the first to access the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta, it seems that the exclusive advantages of PlayStation will carry over into the final game.
According to a recent rumour, it seems that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 could have an exclusive game mode for PS5. Fans should take this rumor with a grain of salt, but there’s reason to believe it could be legitimate.
The rumor comes from leaker Ralph Valve, writing for What If Gaming. According to Ralph, Infinity Ward is working on a game mode exclusive to PS5 for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that will use the new glasses Playstation VR2.
This new VR mode will reportedly see players take control of a Tier 1 Operator, and could be announced at the State of Play event on June 2, if Ralph’s information is correct. And not only that, but it will supposedly be a free download and will be released around the time PlayStation VR2 itself comes out.
Ralph’s article points out that it wouldn’t be the first time that Infinity Ward has done a virtual reality project. As some may recall, the Jackal Assault VR Experience was released for the original PlayStation VR headset as a companion to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in 2016.
