The new version of the Xiaomi customization layer is now official. The Chinese firm has presented MIUI 12, the latest version of the Android-based operating system, in an act that it has broadcast on YouTube internationally.
Thus, for example, MIUI 12 incorporates a series of improvements aimed at further reinforcing privacy protection. Furthermore, thanks to new interface design and innovative animations, MIUI users will enjoy a more realistic system viewing experience. We find design changes, a new dark mode and a series of improvements aimed at protecting the data you keep on your smartphone. This are all the news of MIUI 12 and the compatible Xiaomi mobiles.
Changes in design and animations, and app drawer
The new version of the Chinese fork comes with a series of small aesthetic changes that close a harmonious block. Some of its applications have been renewed, like the one of the time, with a series of dynamic backgrounds much more visual. Also included are new wallpapers set on Earth and Mars, with different aerial images of the morphology of the planets.
The animations now flood the entire system, with details of all kinds that increase the feeling of fluidity. Changes between menus, open or close an application, any interaction is good to introduce a new animation. Without a doubt, one of the changes that we will notice the most on a daily basis.
Xiaomi’s Poco Launcher was very well received by users around the world. Its main distinctive feature, the app drawer, now comes to MIUI 12 . When activated, all applications will be hosted on it, which will make the home screen cleaner and tidier. It’s also possible to automatically group apps based on user preferences so you can find the one you need in just a few swipes.
A revamped dark mode and ultra-battery saving mode
Xiaomi has wanted to go a step further with its dark mode, which reduces energy consumption and helps alleviate eyestrain. It is not limited to apps and menus that change color, but MIUI 12 has been prepared to adapt the entire interface. The black color now reaches every corner of the system, also bathing the wallpapers. If you apply this dark mode, the Xiaomi backgrounds will be adapted to be in line with the rest of the elements.
On the other hand, MIUI 12 also supports the ultra battery saving mode. With this feature enabled, the most energy-consuming features will be restricted to extend the phone standby time and reduce power consumption when the phone battery is running low. Calls, messages and network connectivity will not be affected and will remain fully usable.
New multitasking and notification changes
MIUI 12 almost completely redesigns the multitasking that we knew until now, with new ways of interacting with applications. At Xiaomi, they do not opt for the idea of dividing the screen like other manufacturers, but they are looking for something simpler and more intuitive. For example, when we are playing on our device and a notification appears, we will have the possibility to expand it, creating a floating window. You can move it wherever you want, enlarging and decreasing it with the help of gestures.
Similarly, MIUI 12 improves screen streaming functionality. Now, the user can transmit documents, applications, videos and games with a single touch. In addition, the option to send items with the screen off reduces energy consumption; and hiding private items allows floating notifications and incoming calls to not appear on external monitors.
Privacy enhancements
The Chinese firm has reserved a part of its presentation to discuss privacy. MIUI 12 will arrive with a series of improvements aimed at protecting all the information that we store – and generate – every day on our devices. For example, from now on the notification bar will notify us if location services, the camera or the microphone are being used in the background.
MACE (Mobile AI Compute Engine), the new system presented by Xiaomi, will ensure that our data is protected at all times. We will also find changes in the management of permissions when an application requests access to certain features, a menu will appear that will detail them and ask us.
