The road that all those interested in being health professionals must face is too complex. It is not only about the sacrifices that must be made but also about the rickety supports. only the Undergraduate Internal Physicians (MIP), who must work long hours during their rotations in hospitals, receive a scholarship that is not even enough to pay their transportation expenses.
With this in mind, in order to graduate from the university it is necessary to meet several mandatory requirements. Among them is performing 12 months of permanent work in a hospital. This stage takes place in the penultimate year of the degree and has the objective of putting into practice all the theory learned in the classroom.
Now, the central point of the discussion is related to the treatment received by young people. Although they must fulfill some functions of a health worker, they are not provided with a salary in any way. In fact the amount of the scholarship that each MIP receives is mocked because it is one of the smallest in the educational field in the country.
At least until 2020, the amount of monthly financial support for each student was 1,870. Despite constant criticism, the figure has not had a significant increase and it is one of the many injustices faced by those interested in becoming doctors.

What types of financial incentives do medical students receive during their training?
The Observatory of Medical Education and Human Rights (OBEME), belonging to the Universidad Veracruzana (UV), conducted a study on the subject. Based on public information from the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) and the Ministry of Health (SSa), it identified the salary that a doctor currently receives.
An interesting aspect is that it not only focused on professional doctors but also covers the formative part. The investigation shows everything from the “scholarship” received by young people who have not yet finished their studies to those who are specialists in the public sector.
