Ming-Chi Kuo has a keen eye on mini-LED displays. The well-known analyst has sent another of his reports designed for investors in which he states that this type of panel will arrive first in the next models of the iPad Pro. Epistar would be the first supplier, but Apple would already be thinking of adding other manufacturers like Sanan to the equation in order to meet future demand. Competition between suppliers would also cause a drop in the price of components.
MacRumors, the medium that has had access to this report, reflects that mini-LED screens have gone from being considered a technology in the development phase to something that can already be marketed looking for the most profitable way to do it . Kuo believes that Epistar will have shipped between 300,000 and 400,000 screens by 2021.
A top-of-the-range 12.9-inch iPad
The data agrees with the rest of the predictions and with rumors from other sources: Apple would launch a high-end iPad Pro later this year, with a 12.9-inch mini-LED screen. Only where before it was said 2021, now it is said 2020.
These mini-LED screens are expected to be a revolution due to their greater color contrasts and the enormous definition they can offer, although it remains to be seen how much they will cost the final product. It is not discussed whether this type of screen can also be foldable, but that is already part of another debate.
