Games with Gold is a program that started in 2013 and provided Xbox Live Gold subscribers with two free games of Xbox 360 a month. The program was then expanded to include Xbox One games as well, with a total of four free games per month for Xbox Live Gold subscribers.
However, in the intervening years, this project has been overshadowed, especially since Xbox introduced Xbox Game Pass, and many now believe that the program Games with Gold is slowly disappearing.
It must be recognized that Games with Gold has met its goal of four free games a month for nearly eight years in a row, though many gamers say the quality of games provided by Games with Gold has declined since the program’s early years.
Now microsoft has announced that it will stop providing video games Xbox 360 as part of Games with Gold, starting October 1, 2022. This means that September’s free Xbox 360 games will be the last in the schedule. Games with Gold will continue to offer Xbox One games in the future, but the service’s offerings will be reduced to two games per month.
This will be disappointing to many Games with Gold users who made use of their free Xbox 360 games, but also to those who suspect this is the beginning of the end of the program. Games with Gold In its whole.
Xbox has been increasingly pushing Xbox Game Pass as its flagship program for the past five years, and in that time, Games with Gold has increasingly been hiding behind submenus on the Xbox home screen. Xbox Live Gold is already included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, so it’s likely that the Game Pass program will one day replace Xbox Live entirely.
