After his debut and (apparent) farewell in the man of steel, michael shannon will be back in the shoes of the evil General Zod through Flash. In this upcoming DC Universe movie, young Barry Allen will travel to an alternate reality where metahumans do not exist and where that Kryptonian antagonist is still alive, posing a dangerous threat to planet Earth.
In a recent interview with Looper, the Oscar-nominated actor shared a few words about what it was like to rejoin this superhero franchise. Above all, he acknowledged having had very good moments during the filming of Flash and also praised the work of director Andy Muschietti.
“It was nice to revisit the character,” he said. “I wasn’t there very long. I was in and out in a couple of weeks, so it was a good way to spend a bit of my summer in England. Andy is a lovely guy and a great artist, visually, and I had a blast.”
On the other hand, Shannon hinted that this new version of Zod will not be so different from the one we met years ago. While she avoided going into details, she admitted that audiences won’t spend “enough time” with his character to get to know him in depth. After all, she said she, who is obviously at the center of Flash It’s Ezra Miller.
“I tried to get back into his skin [de Zod]. It’s a little different in this movie. It’s a little more… I don’t know how to say it. You don’t spend as much time with him, so you don’t get to know much about what he thinks. It is not necessarily his film », commented the actor. “That’s the thing with these multiverse movies: you have a little bit of this and a little bit of that. But it’s actually Ezra’s movie.”

Speaking of the multiverse, Michael Shannon confessed to Looper who initially had trouble understanding the logic behind General Zod’s return in Flash. Although fans know that the current trend in superhero movies is to draw connections between various alternate realities, the actor does not consider himself a “big consumer” of the genre. Hence, he was not aware of the infinite possibilities to bring back characters that in theory have already died, as was the case with Zod in the man of steel.
“I was a bit confused. I said: ‘If memory serves, I think I died in the man of steel. Are you sure you have the right guy?’ But then they explained the whole phenomenon of the multiverse to me,” she asserted. “I was a little behind on that. I can’t say that I’m a big consumer of this genre of movies. Not that I have anything against them. If I’m going to see a movie, it’s probably not going to be one of those, but I love making them.”
Linked to the above, Shannon said he enjoyed collaborating with director Zack Snyder on that 2013 Superman movie.
«I loved doing the man of steel and I loved working with Zack. I felt like, in a way, it was quite an important movie,” he added.
Flash It will hit Mexican theaters on June 15, 2023. In addition to Miller and Shannon, the main cast is made up of Sasha Calle, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton.
Antonio G. Spindola I have very bad memory. Out of solidarity with my memories, I choose to lose myself too. Preferably in a movie theater.
