Just a few days ago the first images and details of the long-awaited electric car from Morris Garage. The new MG Mulan
broke into distant China. A compact that is called to rival, among other models, the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Nissan Leaf. This new generation electric will also arrive in Europe. However, in the Old Continent it will be marketed under another name. MG CyberE Y MG4 are some of the denominations that are on the table.
The new electric MG
is back in the news as its technical specifications have been confirmed. Measurements, autonomy, power, etc… All these determining issues have been revealed and allow us to get an even clearer idea of what the new generation electric will offer that should drive the global expansion process of the iconic Morris Garage. Let’s go into detail.
MG Mulan, a new generation electric loaded with technology
It is the first MG model to make use of the nebula platform, a specific architecture for electric cars. It has a five-door Hatchback-type body and its length reaches 4.3 meters. The curb weight stands at 1,665 kilograms and the turning radius reaches 5.3 m respectively.
The measurements of the new MG Mulan
MG has also confirmed that the center of gravity is very low and that the weight distribution is 50:50. The use of the aforementioned platform has been decisive in reaching new security standards. And it is that the final objective, especially of the model intended for Europe, is to achieve the maximum score in the demanding Euro NCAP tests.
Mulan’s battery, which we’ll talk about later, also has CTP technology and provides additional protection by preventing thermal runaway. By the way, we are dealing with a rear-wheel drive vehicle, since the power is sent to the rear axle.
The autonomy of the new MG Mulan reaches 600 km
MG has structured the Mulan range into two battery sizes. We have on the one hand an option of 51 kWh and, on the other hand, a battery of 64 kWh. The main objective of the selected battery is none other than to feed a motor of 150 kW (204 hp). Predictably, and from what has been known about its presentation in the Asian country, additional motorizations and other battery sizes will be incorporated later.
The brand has especially highlighted the fact that its smallest capacity battery is only 110mm thick. The Mulan’s batteries are especially compact, thanks to LSB technology. The length of the battery pack reaches 1,690 mm while the width is only 1,300 mm. Are NMC batteries and are manufactured by Ningde E-CON Power System, a company in which SAIC holds 30% of the shares.
Refering to mulan autonomythe brand anticipates that there will be 400, 500 and 600 kilometer versions. It is important to note that we are talking about autonomies based on the Chinese approval cycle, figures that are usually much higher than those achieved through the European standard.
Release date and price of the new MG Mulan
When will it hit the market? China will be the first market where the new Mulan goes on sale. There your price will be below €28,450. Taking into account the number of possible engines and trim levels, the offer will be structured in different levels. The series production process of the new Mulan is already underway. It takes place at a SAIC facility in Ningde, Fujian (China).
The release of the European version is set for the fourth quarter of this year. Therefore, it will land in the dealerships of the Old Continent as a 2023 model.
