The number of passengers transported on domestic and international flights Mexico amounted to 87 million between January and October 2022with which it exceeded the pre-pandemic levels registered in 2019 by 5%, reported this Sunday the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) mexican.
In a statement, the head of the agency, Miguel Torruco, reported that between January and October of this year there were a little more than 40.8 million passengers on international flights, which exceeded the level of 2021 by 46.2%, when tourism was fully reactivated.
In 2020, the Mexican airline industry suffered the ravages of the covid-19 pandemic, which caused the largest economic closure in this industry, as a preventive measure against the spread of the coronavirus.
Torruco indicated that, between January and October, there were also 46.5 million passengers transported on domestic flights, which represents an increase of 31.5% compared to the same period in 2021.
It also represented an increase of 5% compared to the same period in 2019, when 44.3 million tourists flew internally.
Main flows
The Mexican official pointed out that, within the main markets, North America concentrated the largest flow to Mexico in the first 10 months of the year, with 83.2% of the total passengers entering the country on international flights and of which 21.3 million of passengers carried are from the United States.
The foregoing meant a regional increase of 26.6% compared to 2021.
Meanwhile, 1.7 million Canadian tourists were received, another of the commercial partners within the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), it which represented an increase of 634.8%, compared to the same period of 2021.
The head of Sectur stressed that the European market also had an increase of 159.2%, with 3.2 million passengers transported, the same as Central and South America, where the increase was 110.7%, with 3.3 million passengers.
Meanwhile, the Asian market also saw a 262.8% increase in international flights to Mexico in the first 10 months of the year, with 202,506 tourists.
