in the thirteenth Meeting of Competent Drug Authorities of the Ibero-American Countries (EAMI), held in the Republic of Honduras, Mexico was chosen to assume the leadership of this network for the next four years. With this, it is an achievement for the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris).
Obtaining this space in the international organization is recognition of the leadership in health regulation that Mexico has in the Ibero-American region, in the ICH environment (International Council for Harmonization) and the release of more than 106 million vaccines against COVID-19.
Main objectives
At the meeting, the Mexican authorities presented the Work plan 2022-2026 as a new member of the Rotating Secretariat. The work plan, presented through Cofepris, has three specific objectives: improving the use of tools for the exchange and timely access to information; increase the technical capacity in the EAMI Network based on good regulatory practices; and provide continuity to the priority thematic lines identified in the Ibero-American region.
This diplomatic achievement positions Mexico as responsible for promoting collaboration, monitoring and continuity of the thematic lines prioritized by the network, through the operation of expert networks, and supporting the drug authorities of the Ibero-American countries in the actions of their competence that allow the implementation and development of strategic plans, regulations, projects and programs.
Together with the health authorities of Spain, Portugal, El Salvador, Panama and Peruthe Secretariat of the Network was formed, which will work on the continuous strengthening of regulatory systems in favor of the health of the population of the Ibero-American region.
Ensure better access to medicines and medical devices
The importance of the EAMI Network, which is made up of 22 countries, lies in being a key instrument for generating knowledge through the exchange of technical information that guarantees the access to medicines and medical devicesensuring its quality, efficacy, safety, and its correct identification and information.
