- After analyzing 16 countries, it was found that Mexico is the happiest country in the world.
- 64% of the Mexicans surveyed mentioned feeling happy and 74% said they were satisfied with their current life.
- By contrast, Turkey has the highest levels of stress, anxiety and depression on the planet.
The global situation is in a moment of transition. The critical point caused by the pandemic seems to have been passed, although the health emergency has not yet ended. The risk of suffering relapses remains latent due to the possible appearance of new variants of SARS CoV-2. Despite the above, now Mexico was recognized as the happiest country in the world.
According to the study Towards a new understanding conducted by Grupo AXA in alliance with Ipsos, 64% of Mexicans mentioned feeling happy and 74% said they were satisfied with their current life. In addition, they showed a high level of self-acceptance because, considering their strengths and weaknesses, 74% feel comfortable as they are.
Why is Mexico the happiest country in the world?
Such emotional stability could be based on having a reliable social circle. The reason is because 70% mentioned having a support network and 80% said they trusted their family and friends to help them in case they had any mental health problem.
Another important factor is resilience. The study indicates that 74% of respondents feel capable of taking appropriate action in the event of a chaotic situation. While seven out of 10 are optimistic about the future, which becomes relevant in an epost pandemic scenario and with high inflation.
The nation with the highest levels of stress, anxiety and depression
On the other hand, the Mexican population showed the lowest percentages when asked if they had recently presented symptoms of stress, anxiety or depression. Instead, people in Turkey had the highest rates in these three items.
Another interesting finding is that Mexico is one of the three countries with the largest number of prosperous people, that is, with an optimal state of mind. This was determined after, in the results of the mental health index, people fell into one of the following four classifications: thriving, coping, suffering or struggling.
In this sense, the Mexican population was one of those with the lowest percentage of people in the “fighting” classification, with only 8%. This item describes an almost absolute absence of mental well-being and is associated with emotional and psychosocial problems that must be addressed promptly.
For this type of case, the attention of a specialist is essential, but without forgetting that the advice of an expert is essential for everyone’s mental health. In fact, Nearly 60% of the Mexicans surveyed mentioned that they recovered from an adverse emotional situation with the support of a professional.
This growing interest of the Mexican population in taking care of their mental health was reflected in the clinics of the AXA Keralty alliance, where they treated more than 18,000 patients in the specialties of psychology and psychiatry during 2022.
Without a doubt, the advice of professionals and the support of our loved ones are key to achieving comprehensive well-being. Mexicans have always been perceived as happy and resilient, however, there is still room for everyone in the country to improve our mental health.
