The Mexico City Metrobús is, to this day, one of the means of public transport most used by people.
Since its foundation in 2005, the Mexico City Metrobús has represented a cheaper alternative for those users who travel from north to south, from pole to pole: from Indios Verdes to Doctor Galvez, in San Ángel.
With the passage of time, its route was extended and, currently, it reaches the Tlalpan mayor’s office, very close to the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway, in addition to adding a total of six lines that operate every day for thousands of users.
Every day, the Metrobús serves around 950 thousand people, being, without a doubt, one of the means of public transport most used by society and one of the ones that have most innovated the way people move around the city .
Of course, nowadays, the Metrobús has evolved and is renewed from time to time, mainly in its design, since since 2005 and until these days, it has worn various outfits, to mention it in some way.
Recognition for the Metrobús
Throughout 16 years, today, the Metrobús has been adapting to the needs of all users, thanks also to those who worked on the design of its signs: the frog study in Mexico.
And it is precisely the frog studio that has been recognized by Fast Company magazine in its edition of the Innovation by Design Awards of Fast Company in Latin America.
The frog studio is one of the finalists for having worked on the design of the navigation and signage experience for the Mexico City Metrobús. Given this, through a statement, Lulo López, Executive Director of Design at frog and leader of the study in Mexico, said the following:
“The team focused on observing patterns and behaviors and learning through prototyping to design path-finding patterns. They did pilot tests in one of the most important and busiest stations to understand how people interact with the system, what signals they pay more attention to, what they usually ask other people or security personnel. In these behaviors we find the clues and the first answers to improve their experience and routes ”.
One of the most used means of transport
Mexico City is very diverse and multicultural, one of the largest in the world. Almost a million users travel every day on the Metrobús and more than a million do so on the Metro Collective System, which is why, on occasions, one can get lost in any corner of the capital.
And that is what the frog study has tried to cover with the Metrobús navigation and signage design, being, indeed, very functional for users and easy to understand. Thanks to this, it is relatively easy to find a station, even when the user has to make a transfer.
Without a doubt, the Metrobús has become a powerful means of transport and, to this day, it continues to be very low cost, compared to other services, such as the Mexibús or the Suburban Train.
